The reaction of Mexico and Brazil to the US military aggression against Venezuela
Mexico and Brazil issued separate statements condemning the US military aggression against Venezuela.
According to Isna, the Mexican government issued a statement announcing that it strongly condemns and rejects the unilateral military actions carried out by the US armed forces against targets in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Actions that clearly violate Article 2 of the United Nations Charter.
Based on the principles of its foreign policy and pacifist approach, Mexico immediately demands respect for international law, as well as the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, and the cessation of any aggressive actions against the government and people of Venezuela, the statement said.
Mexico stated that “Latin America and the Caribbean is a peaceful region based on mutual respect, the peaceful resolution of disputes and the prohibition of the use or threat of use of force”, emphasizing that any military action would seriously endanger the stability of the region. Dialogue and negotiation are the only legitimate and effective ways to resolve existing disputes, and reiterates its readiness to support any effort to facilitate dialogue, mediation or accompaniment that will help maintain regional peace and prevent confrontation.
At the end of this statement, the Mexican government announced: We ask the United Nations to act immediately and help reduce tensions, facilitate dialogue and create the necessary conditions to achieve a peaceful, sustainable solution in accordance with international law.
In response to recent attacks against Venezuela, Brazilian President Lula da Silva declared that “bombing Venezuela and arresting the president of this country is crossing an unacceptable line.”
He described these actions as “a serious insult to the sovereignty of Venezuela” and “a very dangerous precedent for the international community” and called for a decisive response from the international community through the United Nations.
The president of Brazil emphasized that this attack is a reminder of “the worst moments of interference in the politics of Latin America and the Caribbean region” and warned that “attacking countries in clear violation will be the first step towards a world full of violence, chaos and instability.”
