Wittkoff’s “constructive” contact with European officials to review the Ukraine peace plan
Steve Wittkoff, the US President’s special representative, announced on Wednesday that he had a “constructive” call with the national security advisers of France, Germany, England and Ukraine to discuss the resolution of the Ukraine crisis.
According to Isna, Witkoff wrote on the X social network: “I, Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, and Jared Kushner, recently had a constructive call with Jonathan Powell, the British National Security Advisor, Emmanuel Bohn from France, Guenther Zauter from Germany, and Rustam Umerov to discuss the next steps in the European peace process.”
He added: “Our focus was on how to proceed with the negotiations in a practical way and within the framework of the peace process of US President Donald Trump; including strengthening security guarantees and developing effective de-escalation mechanisms to help end the war and ensure that it does not start again.”
On December 14 and 15, Berlin hosted talks on the resolution of the Ukraine crisis, which were attended by Witkoff, Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Wittkoff later announced progress on a 20-point plan to resolve the Ukraine crisis. After that, EU leaders issued a statement about security guarantees for Ukraine and the necessary steps to resolve the conflict, which included sending multinational forces to the country and maintaining the level of Ukrainian military forces at least 800,000 people.
Trump met with Zelensky in Maralago, Florida on December 28. Trump said that Europe will take over most of the security guarantees for Ukraine, but the United States will definitely help in this regard.
Zelensky claimed that the security guarantees between the United States and Ukraine have been 100% agreed upon.
After the bilateral talks, Trump and Zelensky joined a phone call with European leaders. Before meeting with Zelensky, Trump said he had a good and very productive phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
