American expert: The meeting between Trump and Zelensky practically did not solve any important issues
“Peter Kuznik”, professor and director of the Institute of Nuclear Studies at the American University of Washington, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday that despite the many optimistic reactions to the recent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, practically none of the remaining issues have been resolved in this meeting.
According to RCO News Agency, Kuznik said: “There have been many happy talks and optimistic reactions about Trump and Zelensky’s statements after this meeting, claiming that they are closer than ever to a peace agreement, but it is quite clear to me that either nothing was resolved in this meeting or, if anything, it was very little.”
The expert emphasized that if significant progress had been made, Trump would be “doing a victory dance” and would be asking for the Nobel Peace Prize.
He added: “On the other hand, the press conference was cold and low-key, and neither of the two leaders mentioned any concrete achievement or a resolved dispute.”
Kuznik further emphasized that the differences between Ukraine and Russia are deep and complex.
He stated that Zelensky and the European leaders are still unwilling to change their strict positions despite Russia’s advances in the field and the decrease in Zelensky’s popularity.
Kuznik also said that European rhetoric – which casts Russia as a threat to the rest of the continent – is aimed at scaring EU citizens and justifying massive rearmament programs across the bloc.
Trump met with Zelensky earlier this week at his residence in Maralago, Florida.
After the bilateral talks, Trump and Zelensky participated in a joint phone call with European leaders.
Before meeting with Zelensky, Trump said that he had a “good and very productive” phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
