According to the Mehr reporter, according to the published official statistics, more than 60 couries from all over the world participated in this year’s eve, and after Iran, the names of couries such as the United States of America, Mexico and Italy are among the couries with the largest number of registered eves.
The “100 Hours of Astronomy” world celebration is an iernational eve that is held every year with the participation of hundreds of scieific institutions, astronomical associations, educational ceers and observatories, and its goal is to share the beauty and wonders of the night sky with the public in a certain period of time. This eve was held for the first time in the Iernational Year of Astronomy (2009 AD / 2008) and the same year it was also welcomed by astronomy groups in Iran. “100 Hours of Astronomy” was revived in 2019 (1398 solar) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishme of the Iernational Astronomical Union and has coinued annually since then.
In this year’s celebration, which was held from Mehr 10 to 13, 1404 (October 2 to 5, 2025), Iran once again had a strong presence in this global eve, thanks to the efforts of the Iernational Astronomical Union Promotion Office in Iran and the amateur committee of the Astronomical Society of Iran, and with the wide participation of the coury’s amateur astronomy activists. Astronomical clubs and associations, public groups and scieific ceers, including observatories, registered more than 30 differe programs in the official system of the Iernational Astronomical Union Promotion Office.
Based on the data published in website The official extension office of the Iernational Astronomical Union (iauoutreach.org), out of a total of 327 eves registered worldwide, more than 30 eves have been dedicated to Iran; This statistic is considered to be the highest number of eves recorded by one coury after Romania and shows the high capacity of the amateur astronomy community and the promotion of astronomy in Iran.
One of the promine manifestations of Iran’s presence in this year’s celebration was the high geographical range of the participas; So that the eves were not limited to big cities like Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Tabriz and Shiraz and cities like Euclid, Sari, Neishabur, Ahvaz, Gorgan, Arak, Pardis, Bam, Yazd and Jam are also visible on the world map of this celebration.
The world celebration of “100 Hours of Astronomy” was held in 2025 at the same time as the 100th anniversary of the establishme of observatories, and it emphasized the role of these cultural-educational ceers in promoting astronomy. In this regard, Iran also participated in the 24-hour global live broadcast of this eve and a part of this program is preseed skyline Gondab Mina and its activities were assigned.
The amateur committee of the Astronomical Society of Iran has expressed the hope that this passionate and effective presence of the coury’s astronomy activists in the celebration of “100 hours of astronomy” will be the basis for more atteion and support from the institutions in charge of promoting science and culture, and will lead to the strengthening of the people’s motivation and ehusiasm to deal with the knowledge of astronomy and the night sky.
