Zelensky: Referendum on the Ukrainian peace plan is possible
Volodymyr Zelensky, following the consultations with the US President, said that he does not rule out holding a referendum on some points of the Ukraine peace plan.
According to Isna, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters after meeting with US President Donald Trump in Maralago, Florida: “We can have a referendum on every point of this (Ukraine peace) plan.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyi also announced on Monday that a meeting between the Ukrainian and American delegations will be held “next week” to finalize the issues discussed in his meeting with Donald Trump.
Earlier, Zelensky said at a press conference after his talks with Trump that negotiators would meet in the coming weeks to finalize the details of the deal.
After meeting with Trump, Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel: “We discussed all aspects of the peace framework and achieved concrete results. “We also discussed the sequence of next steps… and agreed that our teams will meet next week to finalize all the issues discussed.”
The Ukrainian president added that he and Trump also agreed that Trump would host Ukrainian and European leaders in Washington in January.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the so-called “coalition of the willing” will meet in Paris in early January to finalize the distribution of responsibilities for security guarantees for Kiev.
“We are making progress on security guarantees that will be central to building a just and lasting peace,” Macron wrote on Platform X. “We will bring together the willing coalition countries in Paris in early January to finalize each country’s concrete contributions.”
Trump met with Zelensky in Florida on Sunday. Before the meeting, the US president said he had a “very good and constructive phone call” with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
According to Ria Novosti, this was the fourth meeting between Trump and Zelensky and the first meeting in Florida. Their first visit in February this year ended in controversy, with the Kiev delegation described as “ungrateful” and asked to leave.
At their second meeting in New York in September, Zelensky appeared in a suit. A third meeting took place at the White House in October, when Trump refused to issue a joint statement, forcing Zelensky to speak to the press from behind the White House fence.
