Zelensky: I hope to have a productive meeting with Trump
The president of Ukraine said he will talk with European allies today and hopes to have a “very productive” meeting with the US president tomorrow.
According to Isna, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Saturday evening during his visit to Canada and meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney: “We thank Prime Minister Carney for his support for peace in Ukraine.”
According to the Globe and Mail newspaper, the president of Ukraine claimed: “Renewed night attacks are Russia’s response to our peace efforts and it really shows that Putin (Russian President) does not want peace.”
Continuing his claims, Zelensky added: “Two things are necessary to stop the war; Pressure on Russia and sufficient and strong support for Ukraine. “Although recent steps have been taken, more diplomacy is needed.”
The Prime Minister of Canada, for his part, said during the meeting, referring to Moscow’s recent operations: “Creating lasting peace in Ukraine requires an enthusiastic Russia.”
Mark Carney claimed: “We have the conditions for a just and lasting peace, but it requires a willing Russia, and our action overnight shows how important it is that we stand by Ukraine.”
Canada’s Prime Minister announced the allocation of $2.5 billion (US$1.82 billion) in new economic aid to Ukraine, which he said will be used to rebuild the war-torn European country.
