Moscow sentenced a Russian diplomat to 12 years in prison
A court in Moscow sentenced a former Russian diplomat to 12 years in a maximum security prison on charges of selling secrets to the US intelligence agency during his mission in this country.
According to Isna, the Federal Security Service of Russia announced on Friday that “Arseny Konovalov” was found guilty of treason.
The statement of the Federal Security Service of Russia states: “It was found that A.S. “Konvalov, an employee of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a long-term foreign assignment in the United States, actively passed classified information to the American intelligence service in exchange for payment.”
Konovalov was arrested by the Federal Security Service of Russia in March 2024.
Russia’s Federal Security Service did not specify what kind of information Konovalov provided to US intelligence or which US intelligence agency he is accused of working with. Also, there was no immediate reaction from the US intelligence agencies.
A Russian newspaper reported that Konovalov served as second in command at the Russian Consulate General in Houston. According to this newspaper, he was active in the United States between 2014 and 2017.
