Sometimes a picture has more power than thousands of words; Especially when it comes to history. A historical image of Naqshjahan Square has been preserved, which is considered one of the oldest visual documents of Isfahan. This photo is a masterpiece of “Madame de Lafayette”, a bold French tourist and archaeologist, who represents the splendor of Safavid architecture with a curious look.
“Jean Diolavois” was not just an ordinary tourist. Together with her husband “Marcel”, she set foot on the soil of Iran at a time when traveling was very difficult for women. His camera was not only a tool to record the moment, but also a witness to the greatness of the city that was called “half the world”. In a special picture recorded by him, Naqsh Jahan square with its amazing proportions can be seen in a pristine and untouched space. The view of this photo helps historians and architects to better understand the evolution of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
