Russia thwarted an imminent terrorist attack in the Tyumen region
Russia’s Federal Security Service announced on Wednesday that it had foiled an imminent terrorist attack on the control room of an oil pipeline in the Tyumen region.
According to Isna, the Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service of Russia announced that this sabotage was planned by a person affiliated with a banned terrorist organization under the guidance of the Ukrainian intelligence services.
According to “Tass” News agency, the suspect, who was a Russian citizen and from the city of “Vinnytsia” in Ukraine, resisted during the arrest and was neutralized during the operation.
“The Federal Security Service of Russia in Tyumen stopped the illegal activities of a member of a Ukrainian terrorist organization who was preparing a sabotage and terrorist act against a critical infrastructure facility in the region,” the center’s statement said. The purpose of this action was the control room of the main oil pipeline of Transneft Company.
According to the results of the investigation, this person had received the order to make an improvised bomb and proceeded to prepare the necessary parts and hide them. On December 24, he attempted to retrieve the equipment for final assembly. When the security forces confronted him, he resisted armed and then was shot dead by the security forces.
The Federal Security Service of Russia announced that this person was in contact with an agent of the Ukrainian terrorist organization through the WhatsApp messenger. It is stated in this statement: “According to the order of this agent, in addition to preparing sabotage operations, he was gathering information about the state of oil and gas facilities in different regions of Russia.”
