Macron’s description of Trump-era America
The French president said that the US government has used “intimidation and coercion” and Washington’s recent visa restrictions against European citizens are aimed at undermining Europe’s digital sovereignty.
According to Isna, French President Emmanuel Macron reacted to what he called “intimidation and coercion” by the United States of America. This position was raised after the administration of “Donald Trump” banned five European citizens from entering the United States due to a dispute over the regulation of American technology companies and the issue of freedom of speech.
Macron announced today (Wednesday) in a message on X social network: France “condemns the restrictions imposed by the United States on visas”. He added: “These measures are an example of intimidation and coercion aimed at weakening Europe’s digital sovereignty.”
Referring to the digital laws of the European Union, the French president emphasized that these regulations “were approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union in the framework of a democratic and sovereign process.”
According to him, these rules are implemented within Europe to ensure fair competition between digital platforms, without targeting any third country. The purpose of these laws is to ensure that what is illegal in real life is also illegal online.
Macron stated: “The rules governing the digital space of the European Union are not going to be decided outside of Europe.”
He added that France “will continue to defend digital governance and regulatory independence of Europe together with the European Commission and its European partners”.
