Blockstream CEO Adam Beck called concerns about the threat of quantum computers to Bitcoin exaggerated and based on ignorance, saying such comments do not help the Bitcoin community.
Beck made these comments in response to a post by Castle Island Ventures founding partner Nick Carter; In this post, Carter explained why his company invested in a project to protect Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies from the quantum threat.
Beck stressed that the Bitcoin community is researching and developing solutions to counter quantum threats, but doing so in “scientific silence.”
In contrast, Carter has claimed that many Bitcoin developers still completely ignore quantum risk.
He explained that after seeing the achievements of Project Eleven, he made his investment and had complete transparency about this investment.
Other experts also have different opinions; Some warn that the quantum threat may become real within the next 2-9 years, while others believe that quantum technology is still too early to threaten Bitcoin’s security and has more valuable applications in areas such as artificial intelligence. Beck has also stated that Bitcoin should be quantum ready, but that there is no immediate risk.
