Slovakia questioned the specific European loan to Ukraine
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzow said on Friday that European Union meetings should focus on resolving the Ukraine conflict, not on raising money to arm Kiev.
According to Isna, Fitso told reporters after the European Union meeting in Brussels: “Why don’t we sit until four in the morning to discuss what peace plan we can offer to Ukraine?” I really don’t understand.”
He added: “The word peace was mentioned only two or three times. We have devoted the entire European Council meeting in the run-up to Christmas to how to send more money to Ukraine so that more killing can take place. I really don’t understand.”
Fitso went on to say that if European leaders had taken a few days and made a real effort to formulate a peace plan for Ukraine, they would have achieved positive results so far.
Slovakia’s prime minister said the so-called “compensation” loan proposed to Kiev would not strengthen Ukraine’s position in negotiations with Russia and would only lead to more “pointless deaths”.
He also emphasized once again Slovakia’s opposition to financing more of Ukraine’s military needs and added that he does not believe in a military solution to this conflict.
The President of the Council of the European Union announced earlier that the European Union will provide a loan of 90 billion euros ($105 billion) to Ukraine; The loan is based on the EU budget and may be repaid from frozen Russian assets.
