Zakharova: Kopyansk is under Russian control
The spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized on Thursday that the city of Kopyansk is still under the control of Russian forces and rejected the claims of Ukraine about the recapture of the city.
According to Isna, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a press conference in Moscow on Thursday that Ukraine sent its reserve forces to this region to “stage” the recent visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to this city.
According to Anatolia News agency, Zakharova said: “The liberated Kopyansk is and will remain under the control of the Russian armed forces.”
According to the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the purpose of this action was to demonstrate Kiev’s ability to resist on the battlefield to European leaders before Zelensky’s meeting in Brussels.
He made these statements in response to the photo that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed was taken from Kopyansk.
Zakharova added: “Kief’s efforts, which were doomed from the beginning, to break the defense lines were repelled and the enemy suffered heavy human and equipment losses.”
Ukraine announced on Wednesday that its forces had retaken control of nearly 90 percent of Kopyansk. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Sirsky, wrote in a telegram that the forces of this country have “pushed the Russians back from Kopiansk” by conducting active operations.
