Washington added 7 more countries, including Syria, to the list of prohibited entry into the United States
Trump expanded the list of countries with a complete travel ban and added seven more countries, including Syria, on the basis of which citizens of these countries are not allowed to enter the United States.
According to RCO News Agency, the White House announced in a statement that “Donald Trump” the President of the United States has signed a declaration that “expands and strengthens the restrictions on the entry of nationals of countries that have obvious, persistent and severe deficiencies in screening, investigation and sharing of information to protect the country against threats to national security and public safety.”
According to Reuters News agency, this action by Trump has banned the entry of citizens of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, Syria and those who have travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.
The measure also imposes a complete ban on entry to Laos and Sierra Leone, which were previously only subject to partial restrictions.
The White House also announced that these expanded bans will take effect on January 1, 2026.
This action has been taken despite Trump’s promise to do everything for Syria after his meeting and talks with interim Syrian President al-Jolani.
After two American soldiers and a civilian translator were killed in Syria by a suspected ISIS attacker, Trump backed Jolani but vowed serious retaliation in a post on social platform TruthSocial on Saturday.
In justifying the ban, the White House pointed to the high overstay rate for Syrians and said: “Syria is emerging from a long period of civil unrest and internal conflict.” While the country works in close coordination with the United States to address its security challenges, it still lacks an adequate central authority to issue passports or civil documents, and lacks adequate screening and vetting measures.
In June, Trump signed a proclamation banning the entry of citizens of 12 countries and restricting the entry of seven countries, saying that this action was taken to protect the country from foreign terrorists and other security threats.
These restrictions apply to both immigrants and nonimmigrants, such as tourists, students, and business travelers.
The White House also announced that the travel ban for those 12 countries remains in place.
Trump also added minor restrictions and entry restrictions for 15 other countries, including Nigeria. In early November, he threatened military action over the treatment of Christians in the African country.
