America agreed to a possible deal of 35 million dollars with the Lebanese army
The United States on Tuesday agreed to the possible sale of high mobility multi-purpose vehicles (HMMWV) to Lebanon; A transaction whose value is estimated at nearly 35 million dollars.
According to Isna, Lebanon initially requested to purchase 50 HMMWVs, but then added a request for 90 more and the total number reached 140. Pentagon announced that the value of this deal is about 34.5 million dollars.
Other items in the contract include multi-band handheld radios, Global Positioning System receivers, as well as training services and logistical support.
“This sale supports US foreign policy and national security by strengthening the security of a partner nation that continues to play an important role in the political and economic stability of the Middle East,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
According to the Pentagon, this sale will increase the Lebanese Army’s ability to have light and highly mobile combat vehicles so that these forces can “quickly deal with peripheral security threats and effectively implement counterterrorism measures.”
Also, this contract will provide “the ground for more tactical and operational training between the US Army and the Lebanese Army.”
