Prime Minister of Australia: The perpetrators of the Sydney attack were affiliated with the ideology of ISIS
In response to the terrorist attack in Sydney, the Prime Minister of Australia said that the father and son of the perpetrators of this attack, under the influence of “ISIS ideology”, started killing the crowd on the beaches of Sydney.
According to Isna, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told NBC today (Tuesday): “Sajid Akram” and his son “Navid” who attacked the Jewish Hanukkah celebration on the beach of Sydney with firearms on Sunday, were under the influence of “ISIS ideology”.
According to “Agence France-Presse”, during this terrorist attack, which is one of the deadliest shootings in the history of Australia, 15 people were killed and dozens of others were injured.
Albanese emphasized: “It seems that the motivation for this attack was based on the ideology of ISIS.”
He emphasized: “More than a decade has passed since the emergence of ISIS, the world is still involved in extremism and this hateful ideology.”
Australian security officials have come under public pressure for failing to thwart the attack.
Albanese said in his interview that Navid Akram, who according to media reports had a construction job and was unemployed, was noticed by the Australian Intelligence Organization in 2019, but at that time the officials of this organization did not consider him a high-level threat. They interviewed him and his family members and those around him, but he was not considered a suspect at the time.
The Philippine immigration office told AFP they spent almost the entire month of September in the Asian country. “Dana Sandoval”, the spokesperson of this department stated that Sajid’s name is mentioned as an Indian citizen and his son as an Australian citizen in the immigration documents.
Also, according to the local media reports of Australia, the authorities of this country are investigating whether these two people met with elements of extremist groups during this trip.
It is reported that Navid told his mother on the day of the attack that he was planning to leave the city for a fishing trip.
Australian authorities believe that he and his father went to a rented apartment to plan the attack.
According to the reports, these 2 people started shooting with firearms for more than 10 minutes at Bondi Beach and the park near it, but finally they were shot by the police. The 50-year-old father, Sajid, was killed and the 24-year-old Naveed is still in the hospital in a coma under police care.
Australian leaders announced on Monday that they would tighten gun ownership laws, according to which Sajid was able to own six firearms.
