Palestinian doctor: Expressing solidarity with Palestine in Britain has become a real danger

According to RCO News Agency, in an interview with PressTV, he not only talked about the exhausting pressures of the regulatory institutions, but also clearly showed how expressing solidarity with Palestine in the politicized atmosphere of Britain becomes a danger to the career and even the lives of people.

He said that after the events of the 7th of October and the start of the Zionist regime’s attacks on Gaza, he was the target of widespread attacks by Zionist groups and pro-Israeli media because of his clear stance against Jewish supremacy.

According to Dr. Adwan, these pressures not only included online campaigns and media threats, but over time, they were also extended to the official actions of the British government.

Launching the campaign: from the media to the British Medical Council

After Dr. Adwan published his positions on Palestine and criticism of Israel on social networks, the pro-Israel lobby in the UK, led by UK Lawyers for Israel and other Zionist groups, started a campaign against him. The campaign included the publication of slander, misrepresentations and pressure to file a case against him with the British Medical Council (GMC).

Under pressure from these groups, the British Medical Council launched a nine-month investigation against him. Although the result of this investigation showed that no violation occurred on his part, a new case was opened against Dr. Adwan. In the end, he was able to win at the GMC tribunal in Manchester and keep his medical license.

Political accusations and Zionist lobby pressures

The major part of the case against Dr. Adwan was related to the so-called Jewish supremacy. He explained: More than a third of my complaints file was related to this issue. I’m just saying that Jews are equal to others and I want to stop the killing of Palestinians. I have done no harm to Jewish patients or others.

Emphasizing that no doctor or health worker supporting Palestine has ever harmed Jewish patients, he added: “We are being persecuted because of our words and an imaginary threat.” They say I’m dangerous, but how can I hurt someone when I’ve always been fair and equal?

Attack on career and personal life

Dr. Adwan pointed out that these cases and pressures have caused his personal and professional life to be severely disrupted: Two years of my life and my plans have been postponed. However, he believes his cause is bigger than himself and is fighting to stop the genocide in Gaza.

Real threats and personal security

This pro-Palestinian doctor said about the serious threats he received against himself and his family: one of the most severe threats was when someone wrote on social networks: “I will come to your house and cut your throat.” When I saw this message, I had to call the police immediately. Until that moment, I did not know how serious and dangerous these attacks are. Experiencing such a threat showed me that when you show emotion or weakness, the attacks not only continue, but intensify.

He also mentioned the role of the media: some media such as the Telegraph, without interviewing me, published headlines accusing me of denying the Holocaust and supporting the October 7 attacks; Whereas I had simply described the situation in Gaza as a “veritable holocaust”.

Focus on justice and patient care

Dr. Adwan stressed that his activities have always been focused on supporting Palestinian victims and caring for his patients. He said: My focus is on the Palestinians who are under bombardment and also on my patients. My duty is to make the world hear the voices of those who may not be alive tomorrow.

The wider implications of the pressures on the UK medical system

In an interview with Press TV’s In My Voice program, Dr. Adwan warned that the success of the pressure against him could have serious consequences for the entire British medical system.

He added: “If we are removed from the medical profession, the British medical environment will become a place where courageous and active doctors against great crimes will be removed from the scene.” This is the most dangerous part of the story.

He emphasized: If doctors who have not spoken against the killing of children and war crimes remain in the system, there is no guarantee that they will defend justice in the future.
