US pressure against the International Criminal Court to stop the investigation on Gaza
The American government warned the International Criminal Court to stop the investigation of the American officials, the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and the war in Afghanistan.
According to Isna, the US President Donald Trump’s administration has ordered the International Criminal Court to stop its investigation into war crimes committed by Zionist authorities during the Gaza war and officially declare its previous investigation into the US military conduct in Afghanistan closed.
According to the Reuters News agency, the US government has also threatened that if the International Criminal Court refuses to take this action, the US government may impose new sanctions against the officials of the International Criminal Court and potentially target the institution itself.
Trump administration officials have described such investigations as “politically motivated and in violation of national sovereignty,” and added: “The effort to rewrite the Rome Statute, which forms the basis of the International Criminal Court, reflects a deeper effort to delegitimize international legal mechanisms perceived as hostile to the interests of the United States or its allies.”
Also, the attempt to remove the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction over the war in Afghanistan, where US forces have been accused of detainee abuse and other violations, could be seen as “an attempt to suppress independent oversight of wartime conduct.”
A US official said: “If the court does not comply with all three requests, Washington may intensify its response.” This can include personal sanctions against judges or other prosecutors of the International Criminal Court, travel bans, asset freezes, and even institutional sanctions aimed at limiting the Court’s ability to operate internationally.”
During the first term of Trump’s presidency, the United States sanctioned senior officials of the International Criminal Court, actions that were later revoked by former US President Joe Biden.
