Frédéric Demeuse, who grew up near the Sonian Forest in Brussels, was fascinated by the peaceful world of forest creatures and the details of life in the heart of the groves. This attachme led him to photograph the ecosystems that are less seen; Forests and landscapes whose rhythm of life coinues in silence and away from public view. His collection titled “The Forgotten” is an attempt to capture signs of these subtle realms.
Demoz relies on the simplicity of elemes in his images; Trunks, mosses, branches and natural light that create minimal but deep compositions together. He follows some forests in differe seasons and records their slow changes; At the same time, he travels to remote forests in other couries to show the coinuity and fragility of these ecosystems on a global scale. For him, each forest has its own unique signature in texture, light and geometry of life.
Behind this work lies the awareness of the distance that has been created between today’s man and the wild nature. During the last two ceuries, our connection with natural environmes has decreased and many people have remained isolated from the world of forests. Demoz’s photos, like visual documes, remind us how much of the forest’s life is still unsaid and invite us to think about the way we look and behave with the living landscapes around us.
