Medvedev: The European Union is moving towards a dictatorship
Russia’s former president said if EU countries build up their military capabilities, it would destroy their economies and lead to the rise of “dictatorial regimes”.
According to RCO News Agency, “Dmitry Medvedev”, the vice-chairman of the Russian Security Council and the former president and prime minister of this country, wrote on his social network on Sunday evening: “The United States proposes that stupid Europe, which lives on financial aid, becomes more independent in defense matters!”
According to the Sputnik News agency, Medvedev further emphasized: “There is a danger that the Europeans will increase their military capabilities. This will definitely destroy their economy and will require the establishment of regimes similar to dictatorships.
He added: “Europe has had such a bitter experience before; Hitler came to power precisely with harsh militaristic slogans.
On Friday, the White House released a new US national security doctrine that calls for Europe to assume responsibility for “self-defense.” Among other things, the document also shows that the White House disagrees with the position of European officials on the conflict in Ukraine.
At the same time, Dmitry Medvedev said that the updated US national security strategy opens a “window of opportunity” for dialogue between Moscow and Washington, but warned that Russia will “judge not with pretty words, but with concrete steps.”
“Russia will focus not on beautiful words, but on concrete steps,” he said. Is there any move to start negotiations? Are the United States and the European Union ready to discuss security with us without issuing an ultimatum? Not just guaranteeing the security of a half-dead country, but guaranteeing the security of Europe as a whole?!”
In the end, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council also pointed out the danger of the next US government taking office and canceling the decisions and actions of the US President Donald Trump’s administration.
