A complete step-by-step guide to car hooding procedures and reference centers
In order to know what steps to take, you need to know exactly where to go for a car hood. Car hooding is a two-step process that requires visiting two completely separate centers and presenting different documents. Below is a guide for all the steps:
1. First step: go to the police +10 (to settle debts)
The main starting point for car hooding is to visit one of the +10 police offices so that you can inquire about the existence of any violations, municipal fees, parking, etc. and settle all these debts. Do not forget that the car must not have any debt.
2. Second step: Go to the customs office (obtain a temporary exit permit)
The next step is to go to one of the customs offices in your city of residence or the nearest customs office so that you can apply for the issuance of a temporary exit permit (the same as the cabotage card). This license is usually issued for one year. Note that for this, the car owner or a legal lawyer (with an official power of attorney that clearly mentions the right to temporarily leave the country) must be physically present at the customs.
The physical presence of the car is also required so that the customs expert can visit your car and match the chassis and engine number with the documents. Also, the car must be weighed in the customs scale to record its net weight.
3. The third step: visiting the tourism and motoring center (receiving international documents)
After receiving the cabotage sheet from the customs department, you must visit one of the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran Tourism and Automobile Center (TACI) throughout the country so that you can convert your national documents into international documents accepted in other countries. These documents include the following:
- International Driving Permit (IDP): for driving abroad (1-year or 3-year validity);
- International title book (Car Net): Vehicle passport containing technical and ownership information in international languages (valid for 1 year);
- Transit license plate: international license plate for foreign travel that must be installed on the car (valid for 1 year);
- Carnet two passages (CDP): Customs pass book that simplifies customs formalities (optional and more for some specific countries).
