Italy postpones the approval of the decree on military aid to Ukraine
Some sources close to the Italian government announced that the country plans to postpone the approval of the decree that allows the sending of military aid to Ukraine to continue until next year.
According to RCO News Agency, this delay occurs while tensions have arisen within the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government regarding the level of support for Ukraine.
According to a Reuters report, Meloni has promised to “stand by Ukraine until the end against Russian aggression,” but his deputy, Matteo Salvini, has questioned the validity of continuing this support.
According to informed sources, the decree on aid to Ukraine was on the agenda of Wednesday’s meeting – which was supposed to prepare for the next day’s cabinet meeting – but was removed due to a busy agenda. This legal mechanism allows the Italian government to offer new aid packages to Ukraine without obtaining parliamentary approval. The current decree expires at the end of the year.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Italian government has sent 12 packages of military aid to Ukraine.
