According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Reuters, Pope Leo XIV, the leader of the world Catholics, said in a meeting with reporters: “If Washington seeks to bring about change in Venezuela, it is better to take the path of dialogue or perhaps pressure, including economic pressure.”
In response to a question about US Preside Donald Trump’s threat to oust Venezuelan Preside Nicolás Maduro through military action, he said: It would be better to look for ways of dialogue or perhaps pressure, including economic pressure.
The world Catholic leader made these words on the flight back from his trip to Turkey and Lebanon and added: Washington should look for other ways to bring about change in Venezuela.
In another part of his speech, Pope Leo said that the messages issued by the administration of US Preside Donald Trump about the coury’s policy towards Venezuela are “unclear”.
He added: On the one hand, it seems that a phone call was made between the two presides, but on the other hand, there is this danger and the possibility that military action will be taken.
Pope Leo XIV, who was elected in May, is originally from Chicago and has spe many years as a priest in Peru and is very familiar with the Latin American region.
