The Ghaf Woods Experience Center is located near the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed highway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the result of the collaboration between AOE Architecture Studio (AOE) based in Beijing and STUDIOI Dubai. Gough Woods design heralds a paradigm shift in urban life, a move towards biophilic design, low-carbon lifestyle and sustainable and community-oriented development. Biophilic design is an architectural approach that integrates natural elements such as light, water and plants into the built space with the aim of promoting the health and well-being of residents.
Design based on the concept of natural growth
The designers of this structure saw it as a living being that grew naturally from the ground. Its exterior is covered with fiberglass concrete panels that go up and down in a slow and smooth rhythm, giving the impression of the dunes in constant motion. Large glass walls on the south side open the building to the view of the newly planted forest and surrounding water features.

Gough Woods’ clever design is not only aesthetic; Stretched ceilings create a pleasant shade and blue elements integrated with the building contribute to passive cooling. Passive cooling refers to a set of design solutions in architecture, whose purpose is to reduce the internal temperature of the building and create thermal comfort, without using mechanical and energy-consuming systems (such as air conditioners).
A journey to the future through a tunnel of light
The interior of the Gough Woods Center is an experiential journey in itself. After passing through a light-filled tunnel, visitors encounter exhibits that showcase the sustainable materials and technologies used in this futuristic city.

The pinnacle of this experience is a Virtual Reality (VR) suite that allows residents to walk through the Gough Woods master plan and experience living in their forested future. This space is designed so flexibly that it can host cultural and social events in the future.
The area around the building is also carefully designed; From an amphitheater for gatherings to quiet gardens for contemplation and interaction with nature. Every corner of this space is an invitation to return to nature and strengthen social ties. More than just a building, the Gough Woods Experience Center is a beacon for the future of urban living, proving that even in the heart of the desert, a green, sustainable and technology-driven place can be built.
