Kiev: America hears us
Ukraine’s chief negotiator said in a meeting with American officials in Florida: “The United States hears our voices, supports us and is by our side.”
According to RCO News Agency, the American and Ukrainian officials held talks in Florida before the US President’s representatives left for Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“This is not just about peace agreements,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday evening in Hallandale Beach, Florida, where the talks were taking place, according to Reuters. “This is about creating a path forward that keeps Ukraine independent, sovereign and prosperous, and so we expect to make more progress today.”
At the beginning of this meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rostam Umerov thanked the United States and its officials and said in English: “The United States hears us, the United States supports us, the United States is with us.”
Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of the US President, and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law and adviser of US President Donald Trump, were also represented on the American side. The talks took place near Miami at a private club called Shell Bay, developed by the real estate company Witkoff.
Umerov also wrote on X social network: “The meeting between the Ukrainian delegation and the American side regarding steps to achieve a just peace has started in the United States. I am still in constant contact with the President of Ukraine. We have clear guidelines and priorities; “Protecting Ukraine’s interests, ensuring fundamental dialogue and progress based on the agreement reached in Geneva.”
He added: “We are trying to create real peace for Ukraine and reliable and long-term security guarantees. “This delegation will report to the President of Ukraine after the end of today’s meetings.”
In this regard, the Axios News site reported: “During the talks last Sunday in Geneva, the parties generally agreed on all issues except for 2 items; Territorial and security guarantees.”
“The Ukrainians know what we expect from them,” said a senior U.S. official, who said the White House wanted to bridge the gap on the latter two issues on Sunday.
The United States and Ukraine are trying to finalize understandings related to Donald Trump’s 28-point peace plan; The plan, which has been heavily revised during several days of negotiations, may be more pleasing to Kyiv. Steve Wittkoff and Jared Kushner are also expected to present the document to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
