Zakharova: The aim of the attacks on oil tankers was to disrupt the peace process
The spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Friday’s terrorist attacks in Ukraine against two Gambian-flagged oil tankers in the Black Sea, as well as the infrastructure of the Caspian pipeline consortium, were carried out with the aim of disrupting international efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
According to Isna, it was reported on Friday that the “Kairos” oil tanker caught fire 28 nautical miles from the Turkish coast in the Black Sea due to foreign intervention.
Shortly after that, it was reported that the oil tanker “Virat” was attacked and caught fire 35 nautical miles from the Turkish coast with 20 crew members. On Saturday, this oil tanker was attacked again. In the early hours of Saturday, a terrorist attack using unmanned vessels was carried out against a marine terminal related to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium and caused significant damage to it.
Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in response to these attacks in an article published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “We see a direct connection between these attacks and actions to disrupt current international efforts aimed at establishing a lasting peace.”
Zakharova pointed out: “The Western supporters of Kiev have faked these attacks to distract the Ukrainian people, whose morale has weakened due to the dire situation of the Ukrainian army.”
Zakharova said: “These are the work of the same factors that disrupted the process of talks to resolve the war once before. These attacks once again show the inability of the other side to negotiate and prove the puppets of the drug cartel ruling Kiev, who have lost touch with reality and are openly seeking to escalate armed conflicts.
He added: “Russia condemns these attacks and calls on all parties to condemn Kiev’s actions that threaten the freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and properly assess and investigate its destructive behavior.”
