Hungary: Ukraine should become a neutral coury
Hungary’s prime minister said the only long-term solution for Ukraine is to become a “neutral coury” between Russia and NATO.
According to Isna, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Saturday evening: “The only possible long-term solution is that the post-war order be based on the basic principle that Ukraine becomes the neutral state it once was.”
Orban said in an ierview with the German publication Welt am Soag: “Russia will maiain the territory agreed upon by the Iernational Peace Conference, and everything west of this line to the eastern border of NATO constitutes the territory of Ukraine, which will once again become a neutral state.”
He added: “Russia and NATO must agree on the manpower and equipme of the Ukrainian armed forces that are allowed to operate in the neutral buffer zone, and both must guaraee that no one will dominate this buffer state.”
Viktor Orban stressed: “This is debatable, and iernational law provides the necessary tools to create such a system of guaraees.”
Referring to his relations with Russia, the Prime Minister of Hungary noted: “It is importa for the Russians to be able to trust their partners. I use this situation to my advaage. I first negotiated with Russian Preside Vladimir Putin in 2009, and since then I have made God knows how many agreemes and we have implemeed them all. Even those that were unpleasa and difficult, and I must say that the Russian side has fully adhered to all our agreemes. “I believe we can keep it that way.”
He also said: “Hungary believes it is very importa that major couries treat the Budapest Agreemes as something that cannot be easily violated, but as something that must be respected.” Therefore, the most importa thing I can say about the Russian preside is that the cooperation between the two couries is effective.”
Unlike many EU member states, Hungary has rejected sending any lethal weapons to Ukraine and is focused on a peaceful solution to the conflict.
This coury has also repeatedly criticized the European Union’s sanctions against Russia, and its prime minister has described the said sanctions and restrictions as a “failure” that only worsens the energy crisis.
Viktor Orban also emphasized: “European politicians are afraid to accept the defeat of the war in Ukraine because doing so would lead to a major earthquake in European politics and force those previously opposed to peace to resign.”
