Financial Times: The Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of War of the United States have a tense relationship
In a report, the British media revealed the tense relationship between the US Secretary of the Army and the head of the Pentagon.
US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, who is leading the negotiating team on the US plan to resolve the war in Ukraine, has “tense relations” with Pentagon chief Pete Hegst, according to ISNA.
“The strained relationship between the two officials is one of Washington’s worst-kept secrets,” the Financial Times reported, quoting a former US defense official.
The former official also told the newspaper: “Driscoll seems to have sent a clear signal that he wants to head the Pentagon.”
CNN also recently reported that Driscoll could replace Heggst as the head of the Pentagon. However, the Wall Street Journal later reported that Driscoll said he was “not interested” in the job.
Driscoll has recently been at the center of the US government’s efforts to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine. Last week, he presented President Donald Trump’s 28-point peace plan to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.
According to the White House, the trip was followed by talks with a Ukrainian delegation in Geneva that resulted in “an updated and revised peace framework.”
In addition to Driscoll, the American delegation in Geneva included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Presidential Envoy Steve Wittkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner.
