According to researchers, the fault that caused today’s earthquake was in Bahabad, Yazd province, in the center of Kerman and Yazd provinces, and the fault that caused it was probably the Bahabad fault.
Dr. Ali Baitollahi, Director of the Earthquake Department of the Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center, in an interview with ISNA. Referring to today’s earthquake in Bahabad, Yazd province with a magnitude of 5.1, he said: This earthquake was recorded on the border between Yazd and Kerman provinces, and according to the report of the Seismography Center of the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, this earthquake occurred today at a distance of 43 kilometers from Bahabad, 79 kilometers from Kohbanan and 104 kilometers from Raver in Kerman province.
He found the place and location of the epicenter of this earthquake according to the picture below, according to the magnitude of the earthquake and the distance from the surrounding population centers, one city with a population of 9232 people and 40 villages with a population of about 7180 people were affected by this earthquake:
Pointing to the damage caused to the earthquake-hit area of Yazd province, Baitullahi explained: The unevenness of the earthquake area and its surroundings, as well as the location of the transportation routes in the epicenter of the earthquake, show that according to the morphology of the area, its lowness and height on the one hand, and also according to the location of the epicenter of the earthquake and the location of population centers and access routes on the other hand, it is possible to get a preliminary estimate of the probability of rock falls, landslides, and access in different weather conditions. brought
The Director of the Earthquake and Hazards Department of the Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center continued: The epicenter of the 5.1 Bahabad earthquake in Yazd province was superimposed on the fault map of Iran, and based on the proximity of the declared epicenter and the digital map of the faults, the closest fault to the epicenter of the earthquake is the “Bahabad” fault, which probably caused the occurrence of the 5.1 Bahabad earthquake.

Baitullahi pointed out the seismicity of this region and emphasized that the surveys show that earthquakes occurred around the epicenter of the 5.1 earthquake, and reminded: historical earthquakes in this area up to a radius of 2 degrees and machine earthquakes up to a radius of 1 degree have been shown around the epicenter of the 5.1 earthquake in Bahabad, Yazd province. The catalog of artificial earthquakes has been prepared since 1900. Also, based on the new seismic data of Iran, which was provided by the development of the seismographic network of the Institute of Geophysics of the University of Tehran and the connection of provincial stations since the beginning of 2006, the earthquakes of the last 19 years within a radius of one degree from the epicenter of the earthquake have been presented.
According to him, so far, the number of 2,179 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.5 and above have been recorded in the area around the center from 2006 to the time of the 5.1 earthquake in Bahabad, Yazd province, for 19 years. Of these, 5 earthquakes with a magnitude of 5 and above and 78 earthquakes with a magnitude of 4 to 5 and the rest of the earthquakes smaller than magnitude 4 have spread around the epicenter.
