New details of the shooting near the White House
The FBI director and federal prosecutors have released new details about the shooting of National Guard troops near the White House.
According to Isna, FBI director Kesh Patel confirmed on Thursday that the suspect who shot two members of the US National Guard was connected to the US forces in Afghanistan.
“Rahmanullah Lakanwal has been in contact with our partner forces in Afghanistan,” Patel told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.
He added that Lacanval arrived in the United States in 2021 as part of Operation Allies Welcome. Lacanval applied for asylum in 2024 and it was accepted in April 2025.
Patel said his connection to US forces in Afghanistan is part of an ongoing investigation. “We are thoroughly investigating this part of his background, including whether there were any accomplices, both abroad and within the United States,” he said.
