Araghchi: We never left the diplomatic stage, but negotiations have rules
Iran’s Foreign Minister said: The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been ready to negotiate and we have never left the stage of diplomacy, but negotiation has its own rules and it can be done or succeed if its rules are followed.
According to Isna, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday about his visit to France and his conversation with the country’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro that this trip is a continuation of the consultations that have been held between the two countries in various fields, including regional issues, nuclear issues, European issues, Ukraine, international issues and also bilateral issues.
Referring to the existence of many differences of opinion between Tehran and Paris, he added: Of course, we have differences of opinion with France on various issues, but at the same time, there have always been political discussions. This year we had detailed discussions in New York and on the sidelines of the General Assembly, and recently the presidents of the two countries had a phone call.
Araghchi emphasized that it is natural that dialogue is a necessary thing in international relations, and knowing each other’s positions and preventing misunderstandings and miscalculations is one of the main goals of these dialogues.
In another part of his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed bilateral issues and considered the release of “Mehdia Esfandiari” an important issue in the recent relations between the two countries, which, according to him, is going through its final stages. He also mentioned some problems in the way the embassies of both sides work, which are supposed to be fixed.
Regarding the nuclear talks, Araghchi also said that in this trip, detailed discussions were raised and Iran’s positions were explained, including that due to the approach observed by the Americans, it is not possible to have a “balanced and fair negotiation” at the moment. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic has always been ready to negotiate and has never left the stage of diplomacy, but negotiation has rules, the most important of which is to avoid extravagance and coercion. According to him, negotiation is fundamentally different from “writing dictation and listening orders” and it will be possible and successful when these rules are followed.
He added that talks with Europeans have always continued and although these talks are not in a good condition now, they are still on Iran’s agenda.
Regarding regional issues, Araghchi also said that Lebanon, Palestine and Gaza were discussed in detail during this trip and the parties heard each other’s positions. Emphasizing that the region cannot tolerate more tensions and conflicts, he called the Zionist regime the “main cause” of these tensions and said that this regime has received “unacceptable immunity” from the United States and Western countries, and they prevent any action against it in international forums.
In the end, the Iranian Foreign Minister said: The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been ready to negotiate and we have never left the stage of diplomacy, but negotiation has its own rules and it can be done or successful if its rules are followed.
