According to RCO News Agency, citing the American newspaper Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump advised Japanese Prime Minister Sanai Takaichi not to provoke China regarding the sovereignty of Taiwan, following the diplomatic dispute between Tokyo and Beijing over the issue of Taiwan.
The dispute between China and Japan as Asia’s two largest economies began after Takaichi’s remarks. He said that Tokyo can intervene militarily in any attack on an island that China claims sovereignty over and considers it a part of its territory.
In a phone call with Trump on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that the return of Taiwan to China is an integral part of the post-war international order, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The Wall Street Journal, citing Japanese officials and a US official with knowledge of the call, reported that after Premier Chi’s call, Trump called Takaichi and advised him not to provoke Beijing on the issue of sovereignty over Taiwan.
