A hassle-free Egypt tour; Digital visa for tourists was activated

According to Isna, Egypt will make the process of tourists’ entry simpler, faster and more efficient with the trial start of the “Digital Visa on Arrival” system at Cairo Airport.

This innovation allows foreign tourists to receive their visa digitally upon arrival; A process that has significantly reduced the waiting time and facilitated the check-in process. This action, especially considering the opening of attractions such as the Grand Egyptian Museum, is a key step in modernizing Egypt’s tourism infrastructure and ensures that travelers have a smooth and hassle-free experience from the moment they arrive.

Egypt has officially started testing the new “digital tourist visa on arrival” system; An important measure to modernize the travel infrastructure in the country and simplify the process of tourists entering. This digital system has facilitated the visa application process for international visitors and improved the experience of traveling to Egypt.

From Thursday, November 20, 2025, the first phase of this pilot project began; The phase that includes a system based on “QR Code” (QR Code) and makes the process of getting a visa faster and more efficient. This action is part of Egypt’s broad policy to strengthen the tourism industry by reducing bureaucracy and using digital technologies in related services.

According to this system, travelers can receive their visas directly at Egyptian airports and completely digitally. Payment of the visa fee is also done through an online platform, after which a “QR” code will be issued to the applicant. This plan is expected to significantly reduce the waiting time of international tourists and make entry into Egypt faster and smoother.

The implementation of this project has started from Terminal 2 of Cairo International Airport. During the trial period, the performance and reliability of the system will be evaluated in order to solve possible problems before expanding to other airports. This phased approach gives Egypt time to fix technical issues and improve system efficiency.

At the same time, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities held a meeting to review the implementation process of this new system. In this meeting, which was accompanied by the presence of senior officials, the technical, executive and design aspects of the system were evaluated. The integration of the QR system with other services such as passport control, airport services and tourism-related platforms was also discussed.

The digital visa system is part of the government’s extensive plan to modernize the tourist arrival process and respond to the growing demand for travel to Egypt. The goal of this program is to modernize the country’s airports by 2026; in such a way that they have the possibility to process electronic visa and emergency visa at the same time.

At the same time, the Egyptian government is upgrading border infrastructure to match the expected increase in tourist arrivals, especially after the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

In this regard, last week the Prime Minister of Egypt held a meeting with the Ministers of Tourism, Communications, Finance and the Country, along with aviation officials and representatives of technology companies. The purpose of the meeting was to review the digitization process of airports and ports, as well as to evaluate the capacity of the electronic visa system to manage the high volume of international arrivals.

The topics of the meeting included improvements related to the modernization of airports, the integration of the electronic visa system, reducing the waiting time of passengers and simplifying the entry procedures. The government is also investing in necessary infrastructure upgrades to bring Egypt’s airports up to global standards.

In recent years, the private tourism sector of Iran and Egypt have tried several times to open the travel route to this country for Iranian nationals; However, this possibility is still not provided, and Egypt does not issue visas to Iranian citizens, and it is not clear whether this new Egyptian policy will include Iranian citizens as well.
