Some of the news about the Hyrkanian forest fire is promising, but environmental activists and volunteers believe that the fire can still flare up and there is no hope until it rains.

Mohsen Jafari, an antiquarian and environmental activist who is a volunteer in the region, tells “Kejaro” about the extinguishing of the fire in Hyrkani forests:

About 60% of the fire in Hyrkani forests has been extinguished and its volume has decreased during these two days compared to last week. Because the trees were burning last week, but this week the fire has decreased. Unfortunately, we had wind today, and for Wednesday, the wind is predicted before the rain, which is likely to rekindle the fire. The spotting has not been done well and the flame has progressed on the eastern edge.

He continues by stating that the next two days are decisive.

Tonight we are going to the region and if we can make good use of this opportunity we have in the next two days and separate or bury the main logs; In other words, if the staining is done completely, it can be said that we will pass Wednesday successfully. That is, we hope that the rain will extinguish the fire after this wind; So the next two days are crucial.

This environmental activist explains about the rekindling of the fire:

Friday around 9 to 10 am, we were returning, the fire was extinguished and when I navigated the route, the whole area could be seen from the front, only white smoke was coming, which indicated that the fire was extinguished. But with the breeze that blew on Friday afternoon, the fire had ignited again; Even though the fire is extinguished, it is not a complete shutdown so that we don’t have to worry about the fire rekindling, the problem is that until there is no rain and water does not penetrate deep into the logs and leaves, we will not be relieved. So we’re doing our best and we’re doing a good job of spotting because it’s possible that the wind will blow again on Wednesday.

Giving recommendations about the presence of non-specialists, Jafari says:

A large number of people were emotional and told us that we should do something, but those who do not have expertise, cannot do professional work and do not have previous experience of extinguishing fire in the forest, their presence is not useful; No matter how physically strong these people are, it is still not efficient. If non-specialists are not present, firemen and rescue forces can do their work more easily. In this situation, the presence of Zagros residents who extinguished the fire or rock climbers who can go down the final slope and put out the fire can be very helpful.
