In a world where the disaster of the Titan submarine reminded everyone of the danger of exploratory trips to the depths of the ocean, a fascinating innovation called Platypus Craft has been introduced, which aims to revolutionize the experience of watching underwater wonders. This hybrid submarine was designed by François-Alexandre Bertrand. In this design, he made a clever combination of a yacht and a personal submarine that prioritizes safety and environmental responsibility. (yankodesign)

The most prominent feature of the Platopus craft is its unique ability to lower the passenger compartment below the surface of the water. This clever design allows five passengers to watch the marine life in a safe cabin while the main body of the boat floats on the water. The boat is equipped with a series of safety equipment, including retractable air hoses connected to the compressor on the deck, so that the passengers can experience it without worry.
Built in collaboration with the Norwegian company Evoy, Platopus is powered by two Evoy Outboard Breeze 120+ electric motors and a twin 63kW battery pack. Its body also allows it to achieve a maximum speed of 25 knots on the surface of the water.

When the cabin is submerged, the speed is reduced to three to five knots so that the passengers have a clear and unobstructed view of the surroundings. In subsurface floating mode, this hybrid submarine can travel a distance between 30 and 80 nautical miles. This mode is a situation in which the float, in a controlled and purposeful way, takes the main part of the cabin or passenger room under the water surface; But it does not completely submerge and usually maintains its connection with the open air.
platopus; Environmentally friendly
Platypus Craft is not just a multi-purpose pleasure craft, but inspired by the amphibian mammal Platypus, it is a completely zero-emissions product. The use of electric motors completely eliminates the common problems of motor boats, such as fuel leakage and contaminated water in the motor, and causes minimal damage to the marine ecosystem.
One of the most important features of the Platopus float is its commitment to zero emissions. The first commercial version of this vessel is going to be launched under the name “Yacht” version of Platopus. The Platopus yacht version is supposed to be the first commercial hybrid submarine to meet this environmental standard. This approach not only eliminates the consumption of fossil fuels, but also minimizes the negative impact of exploration and recreational activities on marine ecosystems.
