Axios: Ukraine should cede part of its territory – Mehr News Agency | RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, the American website Axios wrote in a report about the provisions of the US plan for peace in Ukraine: Donald Trump’s new plan includes giving parts of eastern Ukraine to Russia in exchange for the US guaranteeing security for Ukraine and Europe against future Russian aggression.
An informed American official told Axios that the White House’s goal with this move is to prevent the possible ceding of these areas in the continuation of the war, and therefore reaching an agreement now would be in Ukraine’s interest.
Under Trump’s 28-point plan, Russia would gain full operational control over the Donetsk and Luhansk (Donbass) regions, although Ukraine still holds about 14.5 percent of these regions. After the handover, these areas will be considered as civilian areas and Russia will not be allowed to deploy military forces there. In other war-torn regions, such as Kherson and Zaporizhia, the current lines of control are largely maintained and part of the land will be returned to Russia subject to negotiations.
Trump’s plan also foresees restrictions on Ukraine’s military power and long-range weapons, and in return, security guarantees from the United States will be provided to Kiev. Qatar and Türkiye have played a role in formulating this plan and supporting American mediation. Negotiations between Trump’s representative Steve Witkoff and National Security Adviser of the President of Ukraine Rostam Umerov were held, and many of the provisions of the plan have been set based on these negotiations.
However, Ukrainian sources announced that the advisors of the president of this country are opposed to many clauses of the plan, and holding a meeting to review it has been postponed to a later time.
It is not yet clear what decision Ukraine will make regarding the acceptance of this plan, and final negotiations are ongoing at the international level, including with European countries and Türkiye. Experts predict that the results of this plan will have important consequences for the future of war and the stability of Ukraine and Europe.
