Ulyanov’s criticism of the hypocrisy of the West regarding diplomacy with Iran

Ulyanov, who was talking to the Rianavosti News agency on Friday, emphasized that the consequences of the approval of the anti-Iranian resolution of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors will be revealed soon.

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Thursday, with the initiative of the European and American troika, approved a resolution that requires Iran to report the status of its enriched uranium stockpile and nuclear facilities to the agency immediately.

The representative of Russia in international organizations in Vienna added in the continuation of this conversation: “Western countries keep repeating that this is not the end of diplomacy, but it seems that with their efforts, diplomacy has practically failed.”

He stressed that such resolutions are adopted when diplomacy is no longer effective and the result is “far from real politics”.

Ulyanov also said that Russia will refrain from presenting any initiative regarding the Iran case for the time being. The Russian diplomat explained in this regard: “Before we propose an initiative, we must know what situation we are in.” We have reached an impasse – or rather, we have been led to this impasse. “We have to examine the situation and then decide what to do and how to proceed.”

Previously, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said in an interview with ISNA: “The main question is that Iran had extensive cooperation with the Agency and we had the Cairo agreement after the attack and access to undamaged facilities was also given. Where is the place of this in political interactions and did the westerners welcome this cooperation? The answer is negative. This shows that they are not looking for cooperation and interactions between Iran and the Agency.”

A senior Iranian diplomat said: “They have defined political goals for themselves and are seeking to exert pressure.” Iran’s interaction with the Agency, the modality and implementation of safeguards are not important for them either.
