Grossi: Iran is not seeking to build nuclear weapons
While repeating the claims about Iran’s uranium reserves, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency emphasized that Iran is not seeking to build nuclear weapons.
According to RCO News Agency, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in an interview with a Uruguayan newspaper, once again admitted that Iran is not seeking to build nuclear weapons.
In response to the reporter of Elobservador newspaper, Grossi said: “With the recent military intervention of the United States and Israel, is Iran no longer considered a nuclear threat or is it still a threat?”, said: “The situation of Iran’s nuclear program is complicated.” This issue has been going on for years and that’s why I’m not going to say whether it was good or bad, but it got to a point where first Israel and then the United States decided to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.
He continued without condemning these illegal attacks and said: The fact is that these attacks have caused heavy damage to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. So, at a superficial glance, we may think that Iran’s ability to build nuclear weapons has been greatly reduced or destroyed, but it must be said that none of these technical capabilities are irreplaceable. This is not a technology that Iran is unaware of or unable to reproduce.
The Director General of the IAEA continued his speech and said: I must emphasize that Iran is not currently seeking to build nuclear weapons. What is happening is that Iran is developing very advanced technologies and non-stop increasing its stockpile of very high enriched uranium. All this has an effect and consequence; Other countries ask “what is this for?”, “what is the ultimate goal?”.
“That’s exactly why there’s monitoring and verification to make sure nothing untoward is going on,” he concluded.
Grossi’s claims about high-enriched uranium were stated while Iran had emphasized that it was not seeking to build weapons, and Iran’s facilities were also subject to inspections by the agency.
