Russia’s permanent representative also said that Russia refused to submit its draft resolution on Gaza to the UN Security Council.

“Russia has taken note of Ramallah’s position, as well as many Arab Muslim countries that have supported the US draft, to prevent further bloodshed in the region,” Nebenzia said. “In this regard, we have decided not to present our own draft that would have amended the US plan to align with the agreed UN resolutions.”

The Permanent Mission of Russia to the United Nations announced that the purpose of this draft is to modify the American plan to make it more compatible with the agreed resolutions of the United Nations. The delegation’s statement separately emphasized that the Russian document does not conflict with the American initiative.

Commenting on the US-sponsored Security Council resolution on the Gaza Strip, Vasily Nebenzia said today was a “sad day for the council”.
