Distinguished Professor of Sharif University of Technology said: The influence of western culture in our coury has caused western innovations to be transferred to us without cash. Today, philosophers of science have come to the conclusion that empirical science cannot answer all human problems and does not justify moral values, something that Popper himself stated in the 1960s.
According to RCO News Agency, Dr. Golshani, professor emeritus of Sharif University of Technology, in the unveiling ceremony of the new edition of Allameh Muhammad Taqi Jafari’s book Man-World Connection, which was held today at the Islamic Revolution University, started his speech by referring to the scieific and philosophical activities of Allameh Jafari and said: 60 years ago, philosophy and religion were less importa in Western science colleges and humanities also had a limited place, but today the world’s first-rate universities pay atteion to philosophy and humanities along with experimeal sciences.
He coinued: Allameh Jafari predicted that experimeal sciences alone are not able to answer the fundameal questions of mankind. Questions such as the origin of existence, the purpose of life, justice and ethics are beyond the scope of empirical sciences and require philosophical and metaphysical understanding. Coemporary philosophers have also come to the conclusion that metaphysical and philosophical principles are the guide of experimeal sciences in solving these problems.
Dr. Golshani shared his memories of Allameh’s ieraction with promine western scieists and philosophers and said: Allameh had correspondence and meetings with Russell and Professor Abdus Salam and always emphasized the need to answer the questions of the day with the language of science and philosophy. He was against the purely positivist approach that sees value only in sensory observations and ignores philosophy and religion.
The professor of Sharif University said: Allameh Jafari was ahead of his time. About 60 years ago, when he was in America, the discussion of philosophy in physics faculties was not discussed at all. Allameh was among the people who opened this way. He said that while he was in Najaf, he visited Seyyed Abdul Hadi Shirazi and suggested that he should familiarize himself with the language of modern science and provide modern scieific answers to the questions. Seyyed Shirazi confirmed Allameh’s words, but said that Najaf is not a suitable place for teaching philosophy.
Golshani poied out: Allameh put forward a poi of view that scholars have reached in rece decades, and that was that the poi of view of Western philosophers has gradually approached the poi of view of Islamic philosophers. In the end, Dr. Golshani emphasized: Allameh’s works and views, especially the valuable book “The Connection of Man and the World”, are a guide for the formation of a comprehensive and ierdisciplinary thinking that can help solve the complex problems of coemporary man and clarify the importance of the simultaneity of science, philosophy and religion.
