China condemned the Trump administration’s agreement to sell weapons to Taiwan
The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned the decision of the “Donald Trump” administration to sell the country’s weapons to Taiwan, calling it against Beijing’s security interests.
According to RCO News Agency, Lin Jian, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in a press conference in response to the approval of the first US arms sales package to Taiwan in the administration of Donald Trump, condemned this action and called it against China’s security interests.
Rashatoudi reported that Lin Jian said: This action sends a very wrong message to the separatist forces on the issue of Taiwan independence.
He said: The issue of Taiwan is the first red line in US-China relations that should not be crossed.
The United States has agreed to sell $330 million worth of military equipment and supplies to the island in its first military deal with the island since Trump returned to the White House earlier this year, Taiwan’s foreign ministry said Friday.
After the US State Department approved the deal, the ministry announced: This is the first time the new Trump administration has announced arms sales to Taiwan.
The Pentagon also announced in a statement that it has approved the sale of aircraft parts to Taiwan and that this proposed sale will increase Taiwan’s ability to deal with current and future threats by maintaining the operational readiness of F-16 and C-130 squadrons and other aircraft.
This arms deal comes after Trump rejected the approval of $400 million in military aid to Taiwan last September.
China says Taiwan is one of its provinces and has not ruled out using military force to control the island, although it has repeatedly said its goal is “peaceful reunification” with Taiwan.
Although Taiwan has its own private military production sector, its capabilities are not comparable to China’s military and it relies on US military support.
