Warsaw’s warning against the spread of corruption in Ukraine
Poland’s prime minister warned that the spread of corruption scandals in Ukraine could make it difficult to maintain an international consensus to continue supporting Kiev in its war with Russia and damage the credibility of the Ukrainian government.
According to RCO News Agency, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that new corruption scandals in Ukraine could make it more difficult to maintain consensus and solidarity with this country.
Tusk said he had previously warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the need to be extremely sensitive to even the smallest signs of corruption around him, as it would directly affect his credibility.
He noted that Russian forces and Russian supporters in Europe are actively promoting narratives of “massive corruption in independent Ukraine.” According to Tusk, in Poland and several other countries, people are getting tired of war and its costs, and this makes it more difficult to support Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of Poland emphasized that Warsaw wants to preserve the independence of Ukraine and the efficiency and cleanliness of the country’s government. He said: “The defense of Ukraine is actually the defense of Poland.” “We will continue to support Kyiv against Russia.”
At the same time, Tusk warned that it will become more difficult to convince other countries to maintain solidarity with Ukraine if the corruption scandals continue.
He recalled that he had previously warned Zelensky against any action that might limit the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Office and added that such decisions could have serious negative consequences for Ukraine.
According to Tusk, Zelensky has shown a decisive attitude in response to the recent scandal in the energy sector, and the Ukrainian government is determined to prosecute the perpetrators. However, Tusk added that the consequences of this scandal have already appeared and its cost will be heavy for Ukraine.
He also warned Ukrainian officials to avoid what he described as the “Russian model of corruption,” as tolerating such practices could jeopardize Ukraine’s war effort.
