In the ancient city of Zunhua, located in China, an amazing hotel stands out on top of the mountain. This complex, which is called “The Rock-Cloud Center”, was designed by “Wutopia Lab” architectural studio and is a new symbol of spiritual architecture and combining nature with human creativity. The goal of the designers was to build a building that would remain a part of the natural landscape while standing out. (UR Design)

The client’s request was to build a structure that can be seen from all parts of the city. At a height of about 20 meters above the main entrance of the hotel, the architects, inspired by the traditional and mythological concept of “flying rock” in Chinese landscapes, designed a shape similar to a huge and suspended rock that came out of the earth. In addition to creating a large space, this structure is considered a mountain theater. This building is a modern cave that rises from the mountain, and in addition to being a shelter, it also has a spectacular view.

The atmosphere of the cloud-rock center is inspired by the natural architecture of caves. Inside this structure, there is a central swimming pool, gym and changing rooms. Natural light shines in through a 26 square meter opening in the ceiling and its reflection on the curved and gray walls creates a poetic effect.

The way to enter the space of the cloud-rock center is also special; A spiral ramp goes through the rocks and takes visitors to the highest point. From there, a view of the Great Wall of China and the city of Zunhua can be seen. At night, the ceiling lighting illuminates the interior with a starry sky, and the steam of the outdoor pools creates a dreamy view in the cool mountain air.

The architectural design of the cloud-rock center brings significant technical innovations. The building is built on three floors and almost half of its space is dedicated to the facilities, which are hidden in the heart of the mountain to maintain the appearance of the structure. The design of the metal shell and the waterproof system, while controlling the costs, maintains the strength of the structure in the earthquake-prone area.
