According to Mehr reporter, Shahin Akhundzadeh, Deputy Minister of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health and Professor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Iranian Medical Council (JIMC), by publishing a note on his virtual page titled “Is Springernature Is it repeating the story of Galileo?”, from the behavior of major international publishers, especially “Springernature(Springer Nature), criticized Iranian researchers.
This note states that these publishers are “automatically rejecting” the articles of Iranian researchers citing international sanctions. Also, some articles that had successfully passed the refereeing process and reached the stage of “final preparation for printing” (Galley Proof), were suddenly withdrawn by the publisher.
In this note, Akhundzadeh called the behavior of publishers “Scientific Sanctions” and compared it to the church’s behavior with Galileo. Where science becomes a victim of political and ideological considerations.
According to him; This procedure strongly weakens the principle of “academic neutrality” and “universality of science”.
The Vice President of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health pointed out that many Iranian researchers whose articles are rejected are simultaneously serving the world scientific community as referees, editorial board members, and even editors in the same western journals. This shows that the rejection of their articles was not due to lack of merit; Rather, it is on the pretext of political sanctions.
In this note, Dr. Akhundzadeh emphasizes a serious warning about the danger of politicization of science, and in the final sentence of this note, he emphasized that “science should remain a refuge for free thinking, careful discussion and debate, and global cooperation, rather than becoming a victim in the game of geopolitical maneuvers.”
