North Korea threatened to take “aggressive action” in protest of Seoul-Washington’s actions
Today (Saturday), North Korea’s defense minister, while condemning the security talks between the US and South Korea and the arrival of an American aircraft carrier in Seoul, threatened that Pyongyang would take a more aggressive action.
According to Isna, this warning message was issued by North Korea’s Defense Minister Noh Kwang-Chol while the country fired a ballistic missile towards the east coast on Friday following the new US sanctions against the real and legal authorities of North Korea.
According to Reuters News agency, the US Indo-Pacific Command also said in a statement: “Although we have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to the personnel or territory of the United States or our allies, the missile launch highlights the destabilizing effect of North Korea’s actions.”
Today, the North Korean Defense Minister announced that the recent arrival of the American aircraft carrier “George Washington” in Busan, South Korea, will increase tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
He noted: “Based on the principle of guaranteeing security and defending peace with strength, we will show more aggressive measures against the threat of enemies.”
North Korea’s defense minister also criticized the recent visit of the defense chiefs of the United States and South Korea to the border between the two Koreas, as well as their subsequent security talks in Seoul, claiming that they are conspiring to increase deterrence efforts against North Korea and integrate their nuclear and conventional forces.
He added: “This is a clear disclosure and a deliberate and clear expression of their hostile nature to stand against North Korea until the end.
The South Korean Navy also announced that the arrival of this American aircraft carrier was to renew supplies and give leave to the crew.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of War Pete Hegst and his South Korean counterpart, Ahn Gyu-baek, visited the demilitarized zone along the border with North Korea on Monday. The officials also held a meeting titled “Security Consultative Meeting” in Seoul on Tuesday.
Hogst has said the core of the alliance with Seoul will remain focused on deterring North Korea, although Washington will examine the flexibility of US forces stationed in South Korea to operate against regional threats.
