New details of the theft from the Louvre; Royal jewel thieves were petty criminals!

According to the Guardian; Paris prosecutors said the daring heist of royal jewels from the Louvre was not carried out by an organized crime gang but by a group of “petty criminals”. Four people have been charged in the case so far, but the precious jewels, worth an estimated €88m (£76m), have not yet been found, as has at least one other person involved in the theft.

On Sunday, November 11, 1404 (November 2, 2025), in a conversation with Radio France Info, Paris prosecutor Laure Beko announced that the defendants are from Saint-Saint-Denis, one of the poorest suburbs of Paris. Pointing out that two of the accused are a couple with children, he said:

This is not a crime that happens every day, but it is the type of offense that we don’t generally associate with high levels of organized crime.

The couple, whose DNA was found on the elevator used in the robbery, have denied any involvement in this incident.

Evidence left behind, including the leaving of tools and the loss of the most valuable piece of jewelry – Queen Eugenie’s tiara – during the escape, has fueled speculation that the thieves were amateurs.

Among the other defendants in this case, there are two men aged 34 and 39 who have previous convictions, including theft, and according to the prosecutor, “have confessed to being involved in this robbery to some extent.” Stolen jewels include unique historical treasures; Including the emerald and diamond necklace that Napoleon I gave to his second wife, Marie-Louise, and a half-crown with 212 pearls and nearly 2,000 diamonds that once belonged to Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III.

Despite the arrests, investigations are ongoing to find the jewels and other possible accomplices or accomplices. Paris prosecutors declined to comment on the imminent discovery of the jewels, but stressed that all options were being explored, including the possibility that they could be used for money laundering or sold on parallel markets.
