According to Mehr news agency, citing Al-Mayadin, Cameroon’s security forces dispersed the gathering of oppones of the coury’s governme with tear gas last night.
The supporters of the opposition party of the Cameroon governme had gathered last night in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, and the city of Garoua in the north of the coury to protest the result of the presideial election on October 12, when they were met with viole action by the police of this coury.
The initial results of the vote couing committee show that “Paul Biya”, the preside of the past terms of this coury, is on the verge of winning the elections to reach his eighth term as preside..
Local media reported that the police opened fire on protesters in the Bombumari area of Garwa city in the north of the coury, killing one person. Reports indicate that the person killed was a primary school teacher who was killed while returning from work.
The results of the elections held in Cameroon and the announceme of the victory of the ruling party take place while Issa Chiroma, the main rival of the preside and former minister of this coury, announced his victory in the elections last week and warned that any other result may lead the coury to unrest.
Protests broke out across Cameroon after news broke that Biya had been re-elected as Cameroon’s preside. Protesters in Garwa town and other towns including Bafusam, Deshang, Kusiri and Douala protested the alleged irregularities in the couing of votes.
Cameroon’s governme, of course, denied the allegations of violations and called for people to remain calm uil the announceme of the election results. Cameroon’s Ierior Minister Paul Atanga Ngi announced yesterday that more than 20 people have been arrested in the city of Garoua during street protests.
He added in a stateme that some of the detainees are facing charges of inciting rebellion and disobedience and will be tried in a military court.
