In the heart of the historic neighborhood of Al Shindagha in Dubai, there is a museum named “Culture of the Sea” as the ceral part and the largest museum of the Al Shindagha complex, which invites visitors to a deep journey io the maritime history of this land. This museum tells the story of the formation of Dubai from the heart of the sea; From the discovery of marine ecosystems and the natural wealth of the Persian Gulf to the activities that have linked people’s lives with the sea for ceuries.
The design and restoration of this complex has been done with full respect to the original architecture of the traditional houses of the region. Inspired by the natural environme, local materials and objects related to maritime culture, the design team has created a dynamic and multi-layered space in which narratives from people’s language and their memories have been displayed. Each part of the exhibition is formed in a connection between the sea and the beach; Where man, nature, history and daily life are tied together.
The exhibition is designed with a combination of archaeological and ethnographic objects, new technologies such as virtual reality and immersive experiences, maps, historical images, ship replicas and reconstruction of marine species. This diversity takes the narrative beyond the border of a simple visit and turns it io a cognitive, emotional and collaborative experience. The Sea Culture Museum is a bridge between the past and the prese and a reminder of the ancie relationship between people and the sea that shapes the ideity and glory of Dubai today. (empty)
