Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Architecture, known as SOM (SOM) in collaboration with the European Space Agency and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, have introduced a conceptual design called “Village of the Moon” in South Korea. The project was unveiled at the 17th Venice International Architecture Exhibition and aims to return to the moon fifty years after the first step of man on its level. (Yanko Design)

The selected place for the construction of the settlement is the edge of the Shakleton Crater on the South Antarctic; Where it enjoys sunlight almost all year. This position allows solar energy storage and exploitation and enhances the chance of self -sufficient settlement. In addition, the untouched material in this part of the moon can provide valuable information about the early history of the solar system and the formation of the world.
The month of the month is designed as a set of research stations that can simultaneously be the platform for sustainable research and future space tourism. Each residential unit has multilayer walls and protective shells that provide researchers with open central space for projects. The main skeleton of the village structures is made of titanium alloy and its outer shell is designed from a combination of double -layered polyurethane foam to create a thermal and solid insulation against environmental conditions.

SAV architects have explained that the design of the village village is a combination of hard and soft structure. The composite environmental frame with multilayer wind shell, in addition to adapting to the interior and exterior, optimizes air flow, maintaining the transparency of the workspace, and providing the researchers more relief and efficiency.
According to the designers, the selection of a simple wind shell and the internal skeleton was to facilitate the transportation of missile building materials. This innovative combination creates conditions for the construction of a village for scientific research as well as future tourism closer to reality.
To what extent do you think the “Village of the Moon” project seems to be implemented? Will we see a human trip to the moon in the near future? Share your views and knowledge with Kajaru.
