The end of the second round of Russian -Ukraine talks in Istanbul; Third round in the near future

The Russian News agency reported that trilateral talks between delegations from Russia, Ukraine and Türkiye have ended at the Istanbul Cheragan Palace. The talks, which lasted a little more than an hour, are the second round of talks hosted by Türkiye with the aim of reducing tensions in the Russian -Ukraine war.

The meeting was chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, attending high -ranking officials from all three couries, including Ibrahim Colin, head of the Turkish National Ielligence Agency. According to diplomatic sources, the Russian delegation consisted of five and the Ukrainian delegation, including four, participated in the talks.

“The negotiations ended without negative results and the delegates are on lunch,” a spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry told reporters.

According to media reports, today’s negotiations will not coinue, and all five delegations will return to their couries. Also, according to one of the sources, talks have been held between the two delegations in Russian.

A Turkish diplomatic source told Novosti that no specific agreeme has been reached for the next meeting between the Russian and Ukraine delegations. At the same time, the Dice news agency quoted an informed source as saying that the third round of talks between the two couries is expected to take place in the near future. According to the source, the parties had detailed talks on the issue of prisoners during today’s meeting, and official announcemes on the results of the conversations are expected to be released soon.

After the speech of the Turkish Foreign Minister at the beginning of the meeting, talks coinued behind closed doors. The Russian delegation was chaired by Russian Preside Vladimir Madinsky, and figures such as Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galzine, Igor Kostiyukov, head of the Russian Armed Forces General Ielligence Office, and Deputy Minister Alexander Fumin.

Earlier in mid -May, Russian Preside Vladimir Putin had suggested that direct talks with Ukraine be resumed in Istanbul on May 9. According to a spokesman for the Kremlin, the aim is to eliminate the roots of the crisis and to serve Russia’s ierests.

At the beginning of the meeting, Fidan insisted that Türkiye was ready to take any action needed to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. “We hope that these talks will be fruitful to achieve our goals,” he said.

At a previous meeting held in Istanbul on May 9, the parties agreed to exchange each captives and also discussed the initial framework of a possible ceasefire. However, no details of the results of today’s meeting have not yet been released.

Prior to today’s talks, the Ukrainian Preside Walodimir Zelnsky expressed hope that the talks would lead to “real results”, including a ceasefire, children’s return, prisoners’ exchange and planning for leadership levels.
